Privacy Policy
Planit helps friend groups find a time to actually hang out. We built it to be useful with as little of your data as possible — and your calendar stays private by default.
Last updated: June 7, 2026
The short version
- We collect what we need to run the app: your account, the groups you're in, the times you mark free, and the plans you make.
- Your calendar is private. If you connect one, Planit only ever reads free/busy times to fill in your availability — never event titles, guests, or details — and other people only see that you're "free" or "busy," not why.
- We don't sell your data, and we don't show ads.
- You can delete your account — and the data tied to it — from inside the app at any time.
Who we are
Planit ("Planit," "we," "us") provides the Planit mobile app and this website. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at planitappio@gmail.com.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your name, email address, and password (passwords are stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider; we never see them).
- Profile — anything you add, like a display name, avatar, and your interests (used to suggest plans your group will actually like).
- Groups & plans — the groups you create or join, your availability (the times you mark free), events, RSVPs, and poll responses.
- Messages — the chat messages you send within a group.
- Optional location — a home city or region, used to make plan and weather suggestions relevant.
Information from your device (only with your permission)
- Calendar (optional) — if you connect a calendar, we read only free/busy time blocks to autofill your availability. We do not read or store event titles, attendees, locations, or notes.
- Push notifications (optional) — if you enable them, we store a device push token so we can send group reminders and nudges.
Information collected automatically
- Basic technical data needed to operate and secure the service, such as app version and the timestamps of your activity. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
How we use your information
- To run the core product: create groups, overlap everyone's availability, find the best time, and keep the plan in one place.
- To generate suggestions — the best time to meet and ideas for what to do — based on your group's availability and stated interests.
- To send the notifications you've opted into (e.g., "your group is free Saturday at 7" and reminders before an event).
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
Calendar privacy
This matters enough to repeat. Connecting a calendar is entirely optional, and you can mark your times by hand instead. If you do connect one, Planit converts your calendar into simple free or busy blocks to save you tapping. We never store the contents of your calendar events, and within a group other members only ever see whether you're free or busy at a given time — not what you're doing. You can disconnect your calendar at any time.
How suggestions are generated
To suggest a good time and activity, we send a minimal, summarized picture of your group — such as overlapping free/busy slots and the group's general interest categories — to our AI provider (Anthropic) to produce a recommendation. We send the least we can to do the job and do not send it for advertising. Weather context for outdoor suggestions is retrieved from a weather data provider using only a general location.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run Planit, and only as needed:
- Hosting & database — Supabase (stores your account and app data).
- AI suggestions — Anthropic (generates time/activity recommendations from summarized group data).
- Weather data — a weather API, queried by general location for outdoor-plan suggestions.
- Notifications & app delivery — Expo and Apple, to deliver the app and push notifications.
- Infrastructure — our hosting providers that run the backend services.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or users' safety, or as part of a merger or acquisition (you'd be notified of any change in ownership of your data).
Data retention & deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Profile → account settings), which removes your profile and the personal data associated with it. Some content you contributed to a shared group (for example, a message in a group chat) may remain visible to that group, and we may retain limited records where required for legal, security, or backup purposes, deleting them on a rolling basis.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, access to your data is restricted by row-level security rules so people can only see the groups they belong to, and we follow reasonable practices to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is ever 100% secure, but we work to keep your data safe.
Children
Planit is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll remove it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. You can do most of this in the app, or reach us at planitappio@gmail.com and we'll help. We won't discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
International users
Planit is operated from, and your data may be processed in, countries other than your own, including the United States. By using Planit you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in those locations.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Planit evolves. We'll post the new version here and update the "last updated" date; significant changes will be communicated in the app.
